Firelands.Net has published electronic online magazines (E-Zines) since 1996. We have a great deal of experience with E-Zine advertising and how the Internet community views online advertising. There is no doubt that the Internet community would prefer that E-Zines were presented without advertising. In fact, if it were possible they probably would prefer a support system similar to public broadcasting. The reality of the situation is that in order for E-Zines to survive they require a financial base. This is where you, the advertiser, comes in.
Why advertise in an E-Zine?
We have found that the E-Zine readership is very focused on the E-Zine topic. Generalized E-Zines seem to fall to the
wayside. E-Zines that address a niche interest seem to have a steady and growing readership.
Why do we use small advertising banners?

Why do the ad rates differ for different parts of the E-Zine?
Our hit counts show that certain areas receive more hits than others. Thus these areas, usually the homepage and table
of contents, receive the maximum number of hits and offer the most exposure.
How can I get the most from my ad?
Selective placement and repetition. Our hit counts show that the E-Zine homepage and table of contents receive the
largest number of hits. We have also found that most readers view every article. To gain maximum exposure we
recommend placing medallions on the homepage, table of contents or on several articles in each issue. Of course
combinations of placements also work. Also consider using several different medallions to promoting different areas
of your business, such as special offers, sales and special merchandise.
How can placing ads in the back issues help?
We have found that approximately 50% of our E-Zine web site hits are generated by the back issues that we archive.
Why? To the Internet community and the search engines the back issues appear as a repository of information. This
means that anyone searching for information covered by the E-Zine has a good chance of finding a link to a back
issue. Since we keep information in our E-Zine archives for a minimum of two years, we have a large number of
active links in all the major search engines. This means a continuous stream of new readers.
Who creates the medallions (mini-banners)?
We have artists on staff that can create a medallion from your sketches, photos or ideas. You may supply your own
medallion. The Firelands.Net Graphics and Scanning Guide can help you create your own medallions.
What if I don't have a web site?
Starting April 1, 1999 all online advertising buyers will qualify for a $100.00
discount on a Hosted Domain Site or a free posting in the Firelands.Net Business Site. If you
transfer your existing Domain Name Site to Firelands.Net you will receive a $50.00 bonus.
